Armeria (Plumbaginaceae)

$12.00

Also known as thrift or sea pink because of their tolerance to salty coastlines. There are several nice species native to the western US. The cultivar formosa mix blooms in June and sporadically through the Summer in a blend of pink to coral flowers. The 12”-18” stems rise above a neat tuft of narrow foliage making it a nice cut flower. Easy to grow, it thrives in poor soil, and prefers a sandy site and can tolerate full sun. Nice edging plant to tuck around the garden. The grassy foliage persists through the winter.

AVAILABLE THIS YEAR

A. maratima ‘Splendens’ - narrow grassy foliage with deep pink to salmon flowers.

A. pseudomeria - Large flowering in white, pink and red mix, wider foliage.

Selections

We have two species this year. A. Maratima is a mix of white, pink and red with a fine, thin foliage. A. pseudoarmeria ‘Splendens’ has a wider, grassy foliage and deep pink/ salmon color. Both make tidy mounds of persistent foliage. We are also growing a small alpine species that would fit well in a rock garden situation.
