Cassia marilandica, or Senna marilandica (Fabaceae)

$14.00

Also known as wild Senna or Maryland Senna, this North American native, leguminous, nitrogen fixing plant grows 4ft-6ft tall. The yellow pea-like flowers bloom mid-summer and give way to bean pods that persist into the winter and are relished by birds, especially turkeys. It grows well in damp or heavy soil and seems to do well in either full sun to partial shade. Very vigorous and spreading root system. The first people of  Eastern North America used this plant extensively. Makes a nice, if maybe imposing, addition to the landscape.

We have found this plant tricky to grow in pots, but they seem to take off when planted.
