Crocosmia (Iridaceae)

$13.00

Sometimes called montbretia, crocosmia is native to the grasslands of southern and eastern Africa. Despite that, it is quite adaptable and has become a nuisance in warm climates where it was brought as an ornamental. Growing from underground corms, the foliage is like iris, linear and lance shaped and it bares brightly colored, funnel shaped flowers, borne on branching spikes in mid-summer. This plant is generally listed as a zone 5 plant but has done fine in our zone 4 for years. An advantage that keeps this plant slow growing and manageable. We have the well known cultivar ‘Lucifer’ that displays bright red flowers.

C. x crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ - Upward facing bright red, tubular flowers on arching stems.

Sold in deep 5” pots. Well established divisions.
