Purple coneflower is the classic ornamental and medicinal plant and one of the inspirations for this nursery. The idea of “useful” landscaping. A beautiful native North American plant that blooms for two months in late summer and, with breeding, in a wide range of colors. Likes full sun, rich, well drained, and limed soils. The roots are a traditional medicinal used for a wide range of ailments and as a general immune system stimulant. Almost all of the cultivars have been bred out of the purpurea species and there is an endless avalanche of new ones every year. We carry five selections currently, mostly emphasizing the species forms.

E. angustifolia - Tap rooted species, pink to salmon flowers June to August. Western species.

E. pallida - From the midwest, narrow drooping pale pink petals. July to September.

E. pallida - ‘Hulu Dancer’ - A selection of pallida with pale, almost white reflexed petals. Vigorous.

E. purpurea ‘Alba’ - White form of the coneflower. Midwest. July to September.

E. pupurea ‘Magnus Superior’ - A nice, long flowering cultivar of the purple coneflower. July to September. 4’-5’ with flowers.

E. tennesseensis ‘Rocky Top’ - Tap rooted, upward curving, deep pink flowers. Long blooming. A species found growing in isolated patch in Tennessee. Probably related to augustifolia.

Sold in deep 6” pots.
