Heliopsis helianthoides v. scabra (Asteraceae)

A cultivar selection of our native western ox-eye daisy a wild relative of the American sunflower, sometimes referred to as false sunflower. It grows in rough places of the US thriving in full sun and poor, dry soil flowering late in the season. The cultivars are easy to grow and will quickly grow in any sunny spot. As they are vigorous, clump forming plants, they can be a little bullish and is best given some room. We propagate two common cultivars that flower late summer and make an excellent pollinator plants.

AVAILABLE THIS YEAR

H. helianthoides v. scabra ‘Burning Hearts’ - Purple stems and green foliage, yellow foliage with a red eye. Late summer flowering.

H. helianthoides v. scabra ‘Bleeding Hearts’ - Purple/red foliage with red orange flowers.

Sold in quart size pots.
