Juncus is a genus of nearly 300 species widely distributed around the world, but mostly cool, temperate regions. They generally prefer heavy, wet, acidic soil and like to grow around ponds and bog gardens. They form a rhizomatous root and have grass-like, generally leafless evergreen stems. Unlike grasses and sedges, rushes produce small green or brown flowers with 6 tepals on cymes. We have been cultivating the well known cultivar ‘Spiralis’. The stems corkscrew creating an interesting spiraling effect and a curious tangled mass over time. The flowers are formed along the stems throughout the summer. Very effective in an outdoor container. An excellent addition to dried or fresh floral arrangements.
J. effusus ‘Spiralis’ - The Corkscrew rush. If grown in a container provide heavy, peaty soil and sitting in a bowl of water.
Sold in 4” pots. Well established.
