Lilium superbum (Lilaceae)

$13.00

Probably one of the best known, loved and hybridized genus out there. There are maybe 100 species with distributions across the Northern hemisphere. Many hybridize with each other so there exists a nearly endless supply of complex crosses with more every year. We have been propagating a few of our North American species but we will leave the hybrids to the specialist nurseries. Currently we offer L. superbum, the American turkscap. It is native to the Eastern US and grows in damp, acidic leaning soil with full morning sun to light shade. Lilys grow from bulbs of overlapping scales that can each produce a new plant. The stems are unbranched, erect with narrow, glossy leaves arranged in whorls or spirals up the stem. Some species can grow to 10 ft. The showy, trumpet shaped flowers are borne at the top of the plant in every imaginable color. Most of our native species are referred to as Turkscap lilies. They have stems that can bear dozens of pendant, recurved flowers. L. superbum has red-flushed to orange flowers with maroon spots and grows 5-10 ft tall. Slowly colonizes in a favorable location.

Sold in deep 4” pots. Well established
