White horehound is a bitter, aromatic herb that has been used by humans for thousands of years. Called the “plant of Horus” in ancient Egypt. It is native to Mediterranean Europe and North Africa giving hint to its growing requirements of well drained soil and a sunny location. Damp soils and exposure in winter are common causes of their demise in our climate. Plant in a protected spot with good snow cover and good drainage. It grows 1-2 ft. with small crinkled leaves and small white flowers in whorls. Horehound drops are still sold as a candy and cough suppressant. Contains a powerful anti-viral.
