Peony Rockii (Paeoniaceae)

$50.00

Peony rockii is maybe the only tree peony reliably hardy to zone 4. Unlike their herbaceous cousins, tree peonies are shrubs with a perennial, aerial woody stems. Tree peonies are revered in China and eastern Asia and have been cultivated for millennia. Most species and hybrids are not hardy here and it not often considered by gardeners this far north. Don and Lela Avery of Cady’s Falls Nursery have successfully grown them in their gardens in northern Vermont. The plants we are offering are from seed gathered from those plants. There is a white and a pink form but currently we have just the pink available because they are the first we gathered, but they are from seed and the color is still undetermined. I planted my first one in our gardens this year.

These plants are 3 years old (plus two years for germination) and sold in deep 6” pots.
