Senna marilandica (Fabaceae)

$14.00

Wild senna, or sometimes Seneca, is native to a large swath of the US. There are two species that are very similar. S. herbacarpa is more widespread and S. marilandica which is confined to a small area of the southeast. A strong root system gives rise to un-branching stems up to 6ft with opposite, pinnate leaves like many in the pea family. It flowers in late summer with yellow flowers followed by bean pods that provide food for birds. Likes a sunny damp location generally. A nice, strong clumping plant that doesn’t spread or seed around. Also tends to come up late making it nice to mix with early flowers.
