Trilliums are a ubiquitous woodland plant in the eastern US, there are in fact at least 35 different species native to the eastern US with a center of distribution in the Georgia mountains. There are two broad groupings of trilliums. Sessile means the flower sit right on the leaves without a stem, pedicellate flowers have a stem or pedicel. Here in New England the well known T. erectum (pedicellate), or Wake Robin, grows in rich woodlands. In western Vermont the white flowering species, T. grandiflora can be found. There are also some really dramatic species that occur in the mid Atlantic states. We have been slowly propagating several species including T. luteum, T. roseum and T. cuneatum but they are slow, taking many years to germinate and flower. We will make them available as we can. We have also been propagating the double form of the white trillium, ‘Multiplena’ a renowned natural double form that makes an impressive clump of long lasting spring blooms. A rare offering.
T. grandiflora ‘Multiplena’ - Sold in 5” pots, blooming size with 2 growing tips.
T. grandiflora ‘George Young’ - Named for an old Vermont nurseryman who found this vigorous form of the white trillium. Reliably doubles.
T. sulcatum - Southern red trillium. Deep maroon flowers, large rounded leaves. Similar to T. erectum but more apt to make a clump.
T. viridescens - Ozark green trillium. Native to the western edges of the southeast. Pale green/ yellow flower with mottled foliage. Sessile.
All are sold as large flowering size bulbs in 5” pots.
